Cheap all round

PostedDecember 26, 2010
No, I do not recommend this product.
Pros: Good value
Cons: Poor quality, Heavy
If you are after a cheap bike, i honestly wouldn't start here. The money you save on initial purchase would probably come back to haunt you in the near future when you have to replace the brakes and upgrade the tyres and pedals. I also think if you buy this to get into road cycling, you will quickly out-grow it. It uses a gear shift mechanism which is located on the top of the handlebars near the stem. Although this seems good because it's more comfortable for people not used to riding on drop bars, they are no where near the brake levers, which is a bit silly. You will quickly become comfortable will riding 'on the tops' and would probably wish the gears where there, where the brakes are.
A few more negative points. The bike is very heavy. It has the poorest groupset i've seen. The welding is very bad. The rims aren't awful though, but the tyres are. The saddle has a fake stitching on it. It doesn't even have real stitching. I think that sums this bike up. Cheap.
Please spend a bit more and stretch to an on-sale Specialized allez, or Trek 1.1 etc. They are at least 5x better, and for less than 2x the price.
NOTE: I'm not a cheapo-Raleigh hater, i have an Airlite 100. A solid entry level road bike which i'm quite happy with. :)

Good basic racing bike

PostedSeptember 5, 2010
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Looks great
My first road race bike for a number of years although I do commute daily with a hybid bike.
The Raleigh Pursuit scores top marks for affordability, although there are a couple of issues, one being the brakes, I am used to the disc type and these are standard caliper which take some pressure to apply, secondly the gear changers are on the handlebars either side of the post which means that you need to reposition your hands each time you need to change them also they are not the easiest to change by their design.
With regards to the delivery I could not fault Evans Cycles with the bike coming fully assembled and just some minor assembly work to carry out.

A good road bike for beginners/those on a budget

PostedAugust 23, 2010
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Comfortable, Looks great
Cons: Poor quality
This is a very nice looking road bike and I have had a lot of comments about how nice looking it is from other cyclists and people interested in cyclying. I am only a novice road cyclist, this being my first bike but this bike has definitely got me hooked on road cyclying which can only be a good thing!
The downside is( 1)the white handlbar tape- I changed this to black tape as it soon got marked and looked dirty with my gloves constantly on the bars however that is nothing major.
(2) I got the bike as it has a small frame - 47cm- as I am 5 ft 2 but the seat post that came with the bike was not able to be lowered as much as I wanted so I changed the seat post to a shorter length one-again nothing major and only an issue if you are short like myself!!
(3) I had an issue with the brakes after doing about 40miles on the bike, they were being very noisy when I used them but I believe that was just them setting in and me getting used to using them properly as I'm used to disc brakes on a mountain bike-I will have this fully checked out when I have a 6 week service done though just to be on the safe side.
The gears are quite smooth although could be smoother again. Overall a good bike for someone just starting out road cycling like myself, I plan to have this bike a year or two then sell on and upgrade to a more improved road bike. But I have had many enjoyable rides out on this bike so far, so good.

an excellent first rosd bike for pleasure / keep fit. brakes a bit hard on the aluminium wheels which does not give you confidence on braking. smooth gears and very comfortable.

Road bike for my doughter

PostedJuly 15, 2010
No, I do not recommend this product.
Pros: Good value
Cons: Poor quality, Heavy, just poor
I got this for my 11 year old doughtergot the 47 size frame, I wanted a budget entry lvl road bike for her. When the bike turned up , it was missing a few bits, it was put together poorly, I was not impressed at all. I was expecting a bit more from this bike, not happy with it at all. The fixings brakes gears are all poor, dont look like they would last long. the back wheel is bolted on no Qr . and this bike must weigh 4 times the weight of my bike. so heavy not great for a 11 year old girl.
There is not much +I can say about this bike, if I had seen it in the shop I would not of looked twice, I know it is cheap, but it is really not for us, we shall be taking it back and spending a bit more on somthing that right..
The service from Evans was good, but they could of told me a bit more about the bike. Not a true entry level road bike

Great value for money

PostedJuly 14, 2010
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Comfortable, Lightweight, Looks great
Cons: lower end quality, shifters in awkward place
After getting fed up with my mountain bike I needed something that was going to get me about faster but within my shoe-string budget. The difference this bike has made is amazing, a great introduction to road bikes. It felt alien at first but now its very comfortable and fairly easy to ride. It might not be able to compete with the quality or ease of use as the higher end road bikes but value for money can't be beaten!

Best Basic Road bike

PostedJuly 13, 2010
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great
Level of Service
The level of service given to me from Evan cycles was superb they provide free delivery . Within the box contain the bike with a tool kit and advise and information on how to maintain the bike as well as instructions on how to fit the pedal and turn the handle bars 90 degrees as the bike comes assembled. This should only take 5 to 10 minutes. The couriers call you 30 minutes before arrive. This give you time to get home if your not already.
Now the bike
This is a very good basic road bike. This bike is better than more expensive bike on the market today. Raleigh have put their 120 year of bike production to some good use to make a bike with cheap material (to lower cost to customers) but have a good aero package to reduce drag for improve speed which only big brands bike names can do such as Trek. The bike is quite heavy for a road bike but this due to the front forks being made from steel rather than aluminium or an alloy, as I said they used cheap material to lower price. The bike is still a lot lighter compared to other types of bikes like mountain and hybrid bikes. The comfort of the bike it surprisingly good for a road bike with a good spongy seat. This bike to much better to look at in real life than from the picture on the website the only problem is that it needs regular cleaning due to most parts on the bike being white. This bike would be good for someone that’s has a small budget or looking to buy their first road bike. This bike can be used for a varied amount of duties like commuting, leisure riding to races.
