Great D lock

PostedAugust 10, 2011
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Lightweight
Light, compact and highly secure. Why carry a bigger one? Modern bike stands make the long D locks obsolete [ unless you want to fix both wheels as well ]

Perfect for commuter

PostedAugust 3, 2011
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Comfortable, Lightweight
Cons: too small for some
This is perfect for the commuter. It is light yet strong and also compact that you won't really notice it compared to other d locks. I would note that as it is so compact it may not fit in all the places you wish e.g a lamp post. Also, it's just plain black/grey which is a little boring for some but i like not to get attention.

Compact & Bijou!

PostedJuly 10, 2011
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Lightweight, compact
Cons: small size limits what you can secure it to
Purchased this lock due to its light weight, compact size and apparent robustness. Most D Locks are hampered by their heavy weight unless required for city centre security. I needed to take a secure means of locking two bikes together whilst out on day rides and touring in France. It fits the bill nicely and does the required job. I've given it 4 stars only because I have no means on checking on how secure it actually is or how well it might resist attack which I'd prefer not to experience!

Very convenient

PostedApril 14, 2011
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Lightweight
Cons: Expensive
Already have a 16mm motorcycle D-lock but wanted something convenient to carry. This is a great lock and light enough not to be noticed in a backpack. It is wide/long enough to fit around most posts I encounter. Its quick to put on/off the bike and feel its probably strong enough for most attempts to nick the bike. I already have lockable wheel skewers so this lock does not have to be big enough to include the wheels.

The ideal frame lock

Pros: Good quality, Lightweight, Looks great, versatile mounting options
I spent a lot of time looking on YouTube at people picking and breaking locks before I decided that this would be the hardest to get through; the only plausible method I could think of getting through it would be by angle grinder, and you can't do anything about that (except for alarms and GPS tracking).
It is also very light, and because it is small and the brackets (lamentably sold separately) are so versatile, you can mount it without interfering with a saddle-bag or second bidon cage. On my 8.7kg carbon road bike, I normally notice anything weighing me down, but this lock makes a minimal difference in that regard, at around 700g against most D locks' 1.2kg. It also fits perfectly around Australian sign-posts, particularly because of the inset in the straight section.
I can't imagine any better lock, though I am considering a vibration alarm and GPS tracker to supplement it.

It's small - but that's good and bad.

PostedSeptember 9, 2010
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Lightweight, quality assured
Cons: won't go round sign posts
The Abus Granit Mini Futura 64 is different to most D-locks because it’s about half the size and about half the weight (730g). The lreduced weight will be attractive to those who find regular D-locks too heavy to carry around, while Abus’ own security rating of level 11 puts it in the Sold Secure equivalent band of ‘Silver’ - which is commendable.
There is a draw-back to this design. The 11mm thick D-shape shackle will fit around posts and bars up to 67mm in diameter. Most sign posts in the UK are 76mm diameter, so if you habitually lock your bike to sign posts this lock won’t work for you. Most bike racks are made out of tubes 50mm in diameter but in some towns they are thicker.
If you’re serious about buying this lock you need to consider what you might lock it to. It is perhaps best seen as a supplementary lock - and two locks are what you need if you have a treasured bike and lock it up on city streets.
