Genesis Equilibrium 00 2013 Road Bike

Genesis is very much a rider's brand. Everyone who is involved with this brand rides bikes and they're an important part of their lifestyles. For Genesis people, cycling is about freedom and escape, it's about slowing down and noticing the world that's going on around you, and it's also about good times with friends and happy memories.

Steel is real

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great
I have always been keen on the look of steel bikes, so opted to purchase this on my office cycle to work scheme as my first road bike.
The bike itself looks great, with a gloss finish to the skinny tubed frame offsetting the brown bar tape and saddle nicely - the pic above doesn't really do it justice. It also has a great level of detail, which makes it much more appealing than some of the aluminium bikes in the price range - the welds are tidy, and the Ritchey dropouts had the staff of the Evan's store gathered round when I came in to pick it up.
One of the major concerns about steel is weight - but this really hasn't been an issue. No, it isn't a lightweight racer, but it isn't a tractor either. Ride quality is second to none, clearly beating the similarly priced alu bikes that I test rode, with it really efficiently muffling road hum. Having been out on several medium range rides of around 30 miles each I have experienced no discomfort. It's no slug either, with good acceleration, and excellent, steady speed. Descents are great fun - solidly planted to the road as you fly down a hill.
The Sora groupset provides accurate shifting most of the time, with an occasional bit of persuasion needed when skipping between chainrings. It's a brilliant frame, however, which means a future upgrade to 105 is very much on the cards and worth investing in. Brakes leave a little to be desired, and I would suggest either new pads to replace the stock ones, or beefier calipers.
Overall this is an excellent head turning ride that is very different to the vanilla alu bikes that you see out there for under the 1k barrier. Very happy with my purchase, and looking forward to some nice weather.
Excellent service from Rob in the Wandsworth store as well!
