Customer reviews for Genesis Croix De Fer 2013 Cyclocross Bike

Genesis Croix De Fer 2013 Cyclocross Bike

It's even the holder of a Guinness World Record since in 2010, in pursuit of an often-contested record, Vin Cox rode his Croix De Fer around the world faster than anyone has managed before. To prove this bikes versatility further, in August 2011 the Montane Icemen (Pete Sissons and Paul Cosgrove) used a pair of Croix de Fers to circumnavigate the 1600 mile coast line of Iceland in just 14 days.

Great do-it-all machine for cx and touring

PostedAugust 26, 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great, versatile
Cons: Heavy
Not a cx race steed by any means but great and versatile bike that can handle everything from technical singletrack to gravel grinding and touring. Bit on the heavy side with the Genesis branded spec as seatpost, stem and handlebar plus the wire version of Conti tires. Still highly recommended especially for heavier riders..

Excellent design, a well-put-together package

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great
Cons: Expensive
I bought this bike as a replacement for a Ribble winter audax and a Mercian one-off roughstuff tourer. Both of those were getting very tired and worn out.
Bike2Work helped me afford the Croix. I was after something that would be nearly as quick as my Ribble (so similar to a road-racing/sportive type) and would also take fat tyres to cope with the winter hammer through potholes etc. Disc brakes would be a bonus as I find I wear out at least one rim a year from braking.
Done about 600miles on the Croix so far and been really pleased. Despite a fairly flexible steel frame, it accelerates very well, is reassuring stable at speed and has reasonably snappy steering. The disc brakes are superb, almost too strong in the wet. The longish frame smooth out the rough road and creates enough space for panniers. There is a touch of toe-overlap with the mudguards but it is only a touch. I've not had a compact chainset before and this has surprised me. The gear range is nearly as great as a touring setup, going as low as 32".
I only have two criticisms so far; the saddle is not so great, very narrow under the sitbones, harsh and no cutout. The seatpost with this saddle is very fiddly to use and I couldn't fit a Brooks at all. The saddle rails just weren't compatible.
Background
I've been riding (mostly drop-handlebar road bikes) for 20-odd years, a bit of club riding, lots of commuting and social riding. These days I do most of my miles on a 50mile-round trip commute, three days a week.

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great
My first drop handle bike. I've always had mountain bikes but after my Stumper Jump comp was stolen I thought I'd try this for the commute to work and occasional bit of trail riding up the heath.
Amazed at how much I like it - very comfortable, decent components and I even prefer it to my stumpjumper which I loved.

Great ride, lighter than expected!

PostedFebruary 26, 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Comfortable
Cons: disc brakes only
Test rode this bike yesterday and I will be buying frame only and building my bike from there.
This setup, considering it has disc brakes and is steel was lighter than I was expecting. The gearing was very nice, shifting very effortlessly and felt like a comfortable all rounder that could suit many uses. The disc brakes felt very good although not as responsive as id hoped through the sti levers. Still excellent stopping ability and very comfortable use of the levers.
I will be using it to tour europe and I can't wait to get this frame home now to start building! I will be using disc brakes but adding intermediate (suicide) levers to give me more responsive and accessible braking from an upright position.
Recommend!
My only change would be adding the ability to use rim brakes (v's etc), as I would prefer to save the ££ and avoid disc brakes.

The D.B's the bike has it all

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great
I've wanted this bike for a couple of years and having convinced the wife i need a 4th bike for everyday I am a very pleased with Croix De Fer. I have Genesis Altitude 10 MTB and was impressed by the ride and the same can be said here. The geometry feels natural, the ride over London roads comfortable compared to my aluminium/carbon road bike, the disc brakes just the job to get through the daily commute and the gearing is exact and wide ranging. This bike could easily replace the others. It's not the lightest being steel, but it's one of the best I've ever ridden.

Ride this bike and receive compliments from riders

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Looks great, multi-purpose
This product is very well equipped, has an astonishing look with its skinny steel frame, brown handlebars and saddle, disc brakes.
I really appreciate riding it : it feels both light and strong, fast and its disc brakes give me confidence.
Its multi-purpose design is what I was looking for.
One remark for non-UK customers (I live in France) : left brake lever is for rear wheel, which is the opposite as standard brake mount out of left-driving countries. If that's an issue, you can still change it afterwards.
