Excellent turbo-trainer but let down by Joule GPS

Posted07 January 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, realistic training
Cons: Expensive
I did a great deal of research before settling on this combination. Like many other users, I found the set-up quite troublesome - it turned out I had to update the Joule GPS firmware before it would communicate with the trainer. This done, things seemed fine until I tried to create a workout on PowerAgent. It has proved impossible so far to get this software to communicate properly with the Joule GPS in either Windows or Mac versions despite support and access to beta versions from Saris, the parent company.
However, the Virtual Training software is excellent and I have now 'ridden' in many fascinating places. Especially good is the ability to upload your own routes e.g. from a Garmin Edge 800 and these can then be ridden with full Google Earth support (and video if you supply it). The software takes control of the magnetic resistance and the co-ordination of video, mapping and effort is very realistic.
A great trainer but PowerAgent software is not up to the task of managing the Joule GPS.
