1st ever road bike

PostedJanuary 25, 2014
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value
After years of competing in xc duathalons, I decided to use Evans ride 2 work scheme and purchased this bike. The advice from Greg was invaluable. I collected the bike today, the handover was excellent and after a short 20mile spin, and a smal adjustment to the saddle, I am really pleased that I followed Gregs advice and purchased this bike.

Excellent bike with quality components

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Lightweight, Looks great
I've been riding the Jamis Ventura Race for 5 months or so now. I did the usual of start looking at lower priced bikes but checking out slightly more expensive bikes to see what they come with compared to the cheaper range.
Once I'd decided that Tiagra gearing was a minimum requirement, the Jamis Ventura Race stood out from the rest as great value. You get loads of quality components for the money: Mavic rims; Richie Stem; FSA vero crank; San Marco Saddle; full carbon fork, not just carbon with aluminium as a lot of the others at similar prices; carbon seat stays and a carbon seat post. It was the inclusion of all the quality components instead of standard kit that swung the deal for me.
I'm very happy with the ride. This was my first road bike for 15 years and I'd forgotten how much quicker they fly on the roads compared to a mountain bike. So far, I've covered a minimum of 300 miles on the bike and can confirm that it corners really well, gear changes are very smooth and the bike just loves to eat up those miles. If you're worried about the tyres (Vittoria Zaffiro), don't be. I've read lots of reviews for other bikes that read "puncture within first 30 miles" or " first thing I did was buy xxxxx brand tyres". I've had no punctures so far and have pumped up tyres to 120 psi on longer road rides, so they are more than capable.
Bought some Shimano R540 SPD pedals and so far that's the only things I've added (apart from bottle cages etc).
Superb way to rediscover a love of road cycling.
Note, there is no room for mudguards as this is a race set up. Things I would look to change in the future: replace Tektro brakes with Shimano; maybe upgrade the wheels to full Mavic Aksyiums for lighter weight / better hubs. I've had no trouble with the Formula hubs or the spokes coming loose but people keep telling me that the lighter your wheels, the less energy you need to turn them - or something? He is a triathlete so maybe he's right, or maybe he's been on the protein shakes.

While an experienced cyclist (mtb/hybrid), this is my first road bike. Aim is to participate in sportives, road training, etc. Did a lot of research prior to visiting the store to physically benchmark this bike against close alternatives. Been out for a couple of quick 20-milers and initial impressions support my decision: this is a good bike for <£1000. Excellent support in the Wimbledon store from Robin.

Lightweight and comfortable

PostedApril 10, 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, Lightweight, Looks great
I have been riding road bikes for almost 3 years now and I started out on a Specialized Allez. I love the Allez and I wanted something a bit more higher in spec with a different frame.
I choose the Ventura Race as the spec and weight of the bike is very good for the cost which I was happy to find. Also like most road bikes it has the carbon forks but this also comes with the carbon seatpost and carbon monostay which are an added bonus.
It has a great set up and also it looks alot better than the picture with little finishes to it.
Overall this is a great road bike for the price and I will probably look at Jamis again for when I want to go full carbon in the future!
