Smart looking, well made, loads of features

Posted04 April 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Looks great, customisable, gps/navigation, hrm/training features
Cons: Expensive, strap length, no mobile app, requires computer, glass face scratches easily
After almost 12 months using the Ambit I feel I can now recommend it though with some caveats!
Its a nice looking watch/GPS/HRM with plenty of useful features and its pretty customisable too. You can set up your own custom training modes and build your own 'apps' and the (today) confirmed updates to apps and Movescount will be a real bonus. 3 major bug bears!
Firstly you need to connect to Movescont to change/customise many settings. Secondly, there is no mobile upload or connectivity such as the new Garmin Connect mobile so you need a PC or Mac to upload/store your 'moves'. Finally there is a limit to a max of 15 hours GPS data recording (1s setting) which without a mobile app restricts the Ambit's use on ultra even or prolonged trips where carrying a laptop would be inappropriate.

Short term impression - fantastic

Posted12 January 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality
Cons: Expensive
Only had since December 2012 but used for cycling, running and walking. Fantastic information provided via movescount. Haven't utilised it to its full potential as still not waded through the instruction manuals. Great looking back at the routes covered off road. HR and GPS pick up very quickly. Short term impression - very impressed - long term - will await and see.

Excellent watch with great functionality

Posted05 January 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, superb functionality, good user interface
Cons: Expensive
First of all, when I received the watch I was skeptical on the size and wondered, how is this going to be comfortable on my wrists. Upon putting it on, it totally altered my perception. It fits comfortably and doesn't feel like wearing a heavy/large looking watch at all. Additionally, I was very satisfied with the simplicity on the aesthetics. It has a very robust feel to it too.
Moving on to the brain works of the Ambit. The user interface was designed in a way that makes the user can navigate across the watch functions easily. The details of the function I have nothing much to add. The heart rate monitor and cadence pod pairs easily with the Ambit. The detection of GPS location is faster than my handheld device. I was even able to get GPS signal in a single storey building. Sports activity monitoring and logging can be done easily and with simple feedback system. PC connectivity is made simple and I upgraded the software immediately with little effort.
Overall I would say great engineering by Suunto to produce an excellence of its class.

Expensive but worth it.

Posted29 October 2012
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, accurate, customisable, long battery life
Cons: Expensive
The Suunto Ambit is a superb multi-function watch/GPS/fitness tracker that is both customisable and easy to use.
Its GPS locks on to satellites extremely quickly and stays locked on even under fairly dense tree cover and within the city. Users can programme a wide range of functions including units of measurement and can also customise individual screens to show speed/calories burned/ distance/pace/heartrate etc etc.
The Ambit will only work with a Suunto heart rate belt which may put some users off as it is yet more expense on an already expensive item but the belt is one of the most comfortable I have worn and is fully washable.
The Ambit's battery is pretty long lasting with an hour's exercise depleting the battery by just less than 10%.
The 'Movescount' site where you download your workouts is a little unusual at first but once mastered gives access to a wide range of dat from your workouts.
The Ambit is expensive but I think it is worth it. It works unobtrusively well and whilst it is a large item it does not look too out of place in non-workout situations.
