Light, quick gear changes

PostedAugust 14, 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Lightweight
Based on the first few rides, it's taking a bit of getting used to using the gears but they change almost instantly and very easily, particularly on the drops.

Would have give 4.5 stars if the site would have let me but this bike is closer to a 5 than a 4.
My Scott CR1 Team (105 GS) was showing it's age and was ready for relegation to winter bike/rainy day status. My next investment would have to include DI2 without a doubt, but all the top/lightweight bikes sooooo expensive. Then I see the BMC on Evans Website. Loved the graphics and spec but thought at the price £2,699.00 "whats wrong with it?" especially as there were no reviews showing. With DI2, Ultegra and weighing in at less than 16lbs there just had to be something wrong especially as I had seen a fantastic write up in Cycle Plus and RR earlier in the year.
I spoke to Evans about my doubts and three days later there was a size 57 shipped and waiting at my Evans Newcastle Store just up the road from me. Took it out for a 15 minute spin and fell totally in love.
After two weeks having owned the Roadracer and put her through 300 miles of rough Yorkshire Dales roads the love affair continues. The DI2 configuration exceeded my expectations in terms of smoothness and immediacy right from the start. You may have read in reviews that this is a bike that is more Sportive than Race. If so it is only a marginal thing. This steed begs to be ridden fast and encourages you to climb at cadence, it just keeps kicking on. I would stress, and this is not a moan, negative comment or criticism (as I find you trade off speed against comfort). Over rough roads you do get a little more feed back than you would probably like, but the roads would have to be bad (and they are in the Dales). Did a 70 miler on rough roads at decent speed last week and sufferend no pins and needles). On average to smooth surfaces the BMC just "Purrs" along just wanting you to go up another gear. In tough hilly areas the 50-34/11-28 is the perfect combination. The Fizik saddle is entry level but you would have to be very picky to find fault. Given I weigh 88kgs am 6' 1" (so a hefty unit) the bike is so reactive and nimble at the front end that it surprised me. So finally to the wheels - what can I say, they are just fantastic and typical Mavic.
