Charge Zester 2012 Hybrid Bike

Charge Bikes specialise in uncomplicated yet functional bicycles and frames with a distinct and contemporary styling. Their frames are designed using carefully selected tube sets which are specifically chosen to fit requirements. Charge's main love is for Steel and Titanium tubes from renowned tubing makers Tange, they have a long pedigree in producing materials of the highest quality and as a result Tange tubing makes up the mainstay of the range which covers everything from cutting edge titanium mountain and road frames to simple fixed gear bikes. Charge intend to be a breath of fresh air in a world of generic hydroformed aluminium, carbon and expensive, complicated dual suspension. Charge products are designed to inspire you to get out there and ride, no matter what type of cycling you're into.

Good commuter

PostedAugust 4, 2013
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Comfortable, Looks great
Cons: Poor quality
I was looking for a hybrid bike for my mixed potholed road / gravel track / short path through the woods commute, and the Charge Zester seemed to fit the bill. The standard tyres were not really up to this kind of mixed use, so after 300 miles I swapped them for Continental TravelContact 700x37, which greatly improved the ride, and made the Zester a fun bike to ride. It is comfortable, reasonably fast, and the wide bars make it easy to control in the rough. A particular highlight are the breaks, which work consistently well in all conditions.
The only concern is quality: The paint has already been rubbed off around the headtube - not disastrous on an aluminium bike, but surprising given Charge's reputation for steel frames. The gears were also in pretty bad shape after 700 miles, but work fine again now after the 6 week service.

Light - Lightening

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, Lightweight, Looks great
Bought the Charge Zester to improve my fitness. It has reminded me why I loved cycling all those years ago. The frame is light and stiff. Overall the bike is very light, I've taken a lot of time of my usual rides already. The ride feel is uncomplicated, easy to control, but amazingly comfortable and predictable. The saddle is a joy, very surprised for it to be so comfortable so soon. Gear ratios are a little closer than my hilly commute really demands, but they work very well. The brakes are meant to be the cheapest version in their manufacturing class, but they work extremely well and I'm left wondering what the higher cost versions would provide. Only current complaint is the frame is small, which limits the D-lock locations, maybe its time I should consider a TIGR lock. Great bike highly recommended. I would consider the Charge brand again, an English company as well.

Great quick commuter

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great
Charge was a new brand for me to own, but very happy so far. Good posture and sizing, and a quick ride through town.
Happy that disc brakes are becoming more common on road oriented bikes as well. Consistent, powerful braking provides an added layer of safety.
SRAM shifting still isn't up to the level of Shimano, but good enough.
Only part of the bike I wish was different as supplied is the heavy and poor quality crankset and bottom bracket.
