Pros: Good value, Looks great, quality build, quality materials, great design
This has to be one of the best tire drive magnetic turbotrainers on the market and definitely the quietest when in use. The build quality is second to none, typical Japanese, superb design, manufactured from quality materials and built to last a lifetime. Easy to assemble and set up. It takes less than 30 secs to fit my bike into the trainer using the convenient quick release mechanism. You only need to set up the quick release mechanism once, lock the adjustment in place and that’s it. The flywheel unit then needs to be adjusted to connect with the tyre, this is done simply by turning an adjustment knob on the unit. This only needs to be done once also, after that it is a simple matter of pressing the unit foot pedal to connect or disconnect the unit with the tyre. If you have set this adjustment up correctly the wear on your tyre will be no more and probably less than it would wear on the road. If you don't put enough tension on then the tyre will slip and wear quicker, apply just enough tension so the tyre doesn't slip, no more. There are 13 levels of resistance, adjustable using the remote lever. The remote lever is easily mounted or un-mounted on the handlebars using a quick release mechanism. Adjustments between levels is positive and linear, this cannot be said of cheaper units. I’ve only managed to pedal for any length of time at level 5, if you can pedal for any length of time at levels 10 to 13 you should seriously consider turning professional. The is a 1 cm adjustment on the legs which is great if your using it on an uneven garage floor or in my case on an uneven rear patio. The legs are fitted with non-slip rubber feet. Providing you have set up the turbotrainer correctly your bike will be securely held in place, it’s possible to push the unit to the limits with absolutely no lateral movement.. The unit folds down for easy storage just be careful you don't trap your fingers The Minoura Magteqs usually retails at £370 it was on offer at Evans at £250, a whopping £120 discount. I genuinely attempted to purchase this unit from my local cycle retailers, sadly none of them could come anywhere near this price, they all confirmed this was a quality product, one of them even informed me that at the price Evans was offering this unit at “I should snap their hand off”. I did. If you’re looking for a quality magnetic tyre drive turbotrainer this is a superb piece of kit at the price.
