The perfect rugged commute

PostedDecember 12, 2011
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, Looks great
Bought this bike to save my road bike from abrasive winter commutes in Scotland, with the hope that it would double up as a reliable tourer and for a wee bit of cyclocross. The frame absorbs shocks well giving a very smooth ride and copes very well with rough tracks. The tyres are excellent and have done well on loose mud and iced up tracks.
The riding position is very comfortable and allows good visibility in traffic. It takes panniers well.
It looks a bit like a policeman's bike, which is great as it doesn't scream 'steal me' for locking up in town.
Seems to fit me perfectly- I'm 5'8'' tall female.
The only negatives I can find are the lack of bar top brake levers which would have been handy, but this has left more handlebar space for fitting lights. Also the brakes weren't centered properly when the bike arrived requiring a wee bit of fiddling but not really a reason to complain.
Would summarise as a no frills cx, perfect for rougher commutes and touring. Very pleased as has suited my requirements perfectly.

Very good value for money

PostedFebruary 29, 2012
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Looks great
Pros I've got 4 bikes of which this is my second Pinnacle. [ My other is a Lagerra 2.0 2008] Both are great value for money. Great on off road paths, and faster than my mountain bike on the road . Looks good in black. Came as complete when delivered, [first time I have ordered a
bike on line]
Cons. came with extra pieces of trim/plastic of which I was uncertain where to put or use

Superb step up from a hybrid

PostedJanuary 27, 2012
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Looks great, fast
Cons: Poor quality, Expensive, brakes, tyres
I bought the bike for my 13 miles-each-way daily commute through London.
=Likes:
I asked Evans to fit mudguards, rear pannier rack, lights, computer and clips. The clips make a huge difference and between them and the third chain ring, even the steepest hills are manageable.
The bike is very comfortable despite the seat looking like a razor blade.
After riding a hybrid, it's a very fast bike - between 4-10mph faster than my old bike on flat roads, once you get used to clips and the new gear levers.
It's a versatile bike - I took it off road around Thetford Forest and was able to keep up on loose tracks with anyone else.
=Dislikes:
The brakes need to be set up and lubed absolutely **perfectly** to work. Any lack of lube or chain stretch, and they are totally ineffective.
After 4 punctures in the first 3 weeks, I swapped the tyres for Armadillos, and was pretty gutted I needed to spend another £60 on tyres, on a brand new bike.
Why is the seat white? It discoloured to match my black cycling shorts within a week.
=Summary:
Overall, I've done 500 miles on the bike, commuting and off road. It's a big improvement over my hybrid in every way. I'd consider upgrading the brakes at some point.
I have recommended the bike to others, although I've warned them that for an entry level price, they need to reserve a substantial budget for all the other accessories and upgrading the poor parts of the bike (such as tyres).

I haven't really used the bike much yet. But one con I noticed is that it is almost impossible to mount mudguards on the bike when you have a little thicker wintertyres on. It should really have been more space there for that purpose! Otherwise I'm so far satisfied with the bike.
