Great for training in this wet summer!

PostedJuly 3, 2012
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable, Lightweight
Ordered online and picked up from store no problem. Surprisingly light and compact for storage. Takes about ten minutes to get used to but really helps develop an efficient smooth stroke. Resistance is ok, and can be adjusted by changing gear or reducing tyre pressure. Maybe equivalent to cycling on flat with no wind. Bought mainly because I hate riding in wet and it's been very wet recently.

I actually got the PVC one which is great. If you want to improve you balance and cycling technique this is a great product. It is not very noisy and you can have a great work out.

Solid piece of kit

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Lightweight
My first set of rollers, so no comparison with others I'm afraid! However, I can confirm that these are solidly constructed, whilst being light enough to move around easily in their folded state.
They ride smoothly with less noise than a turbo.
Despite all the horror stories I've found rollers pretty easy to get used to, and have yet to have any catastrophic crashes! I rode off the side of them the other night and came to no harm whatsoever, just stopped pedalling, unclipped, and put my foot down. If you're thinking of getting some I'd say go for it!

High quality product that improves performance

PostedMarch 11, 2012
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Lightweight, easy to set up and store
I wanted to get a trainer for bad weather and winter evenings. I considered a turbo, but having seen the reviews and realising that they cause wear on the rear tyre and seemed a bit boring, I decided to investigate a set of rollers. None of the staff at my local Evans store had tried rollers, but relying on the Evans returns policy, I ordered these in store for home delivery.
The rollers arrived quickly, and were easy to set up. At maximum length, they just fitted the wheelbase of my mountain bike ( which is actually used for road riding). I set them up in the summerhouse with a garden chair one side and the wall on the other. I read the short but useful advice in the instruction manual. After a few minutes, I had the hang of balancing on them. After two or three sessions, balancing became second nature. However, I always set up the rollers with support either side so that I can lean on something when getting off and on.
Training on rollers has made a real difference to the way I sit on the bike. It has definitely improved my technique. I feel that I sit squarer in the saddle, and the power goes down better. I have also noticed that the rollers give a core work out because of the need to make constant small movements to balance and keep the bike straight.
The difference between lower and higher gears on the bike gives a wide range of resistance. The resistance of my mountain bike and the tension of the belt driving the front roller, provides enough of a work out for me. I wouldn't set up a turbo trainer with any higher resistance than the rollers can provide.
If you're thinking about a trainer, and aren't aiming for tree-trunk legs, I would advise you give rollers a try. They're not as difficult as you might think, and certainly improve technique and balance. These are aluminium and suitable for outdoor use, so I'm planning on using them outside on summer evenings as well as the normal rides. They fold in half and stand vertically, so they take up very little room when not in use.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the rollers. They're good value and have improved my fitness and technique.

Well built, easily set up, light to carry.
Just need to learn to stay upright, more fun than the turbo.

Pros: Good quality, Comfortable, Lightweight, robust

Fantastic bit of kit. Robust, strong, reliable. A bit pricey imo but they'll last so long they're guaranteed to pay off.
