My wheels were stolen last night

PostedOctober 10, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
Pros: Lightweight, Looks great
Cons: didn't work when faced with a thief
And they were fitted with these Skewers
They had worked well for a good 8-9 months but after that point they had become rather stiff and would not unlock even when the bike was upside down.
The reach crunch point however, came last night, when some vagabond came and cut through the 2 extender cables I had threaded through each wheel into each one of my D locks and just walked away with my wheels.
I am a little mistified as to how they managed to do this but as a previous reviewer mentioned he got his one off when they were locked, perhaps the thief used a wrench and some elbow grease to strip the thread inside.
Zefal has emblazoned "Anti Theft System" on thee skewers, but unfortunately for me they haven't lived up to their name. Good as a deterrent if you need to pop to the shops and don't want to faff around with loads of locks, but bad if you actually need them to stop someone from stealing your wheels...

good idea like deterrent, but too weak

PostedApril 23, 2012
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, no seat lock
Like deterrent is a good choice to safeguard your bike, even if there is no lock for the seat.
I think that if a thief wants to break, it's easy for him to do.

Great kit

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality, Looks great, added security.
Wow what a great invention, has to be the best upgrade I have purchased ever. Always up end my bike to remove the wheels so for me they are lik normal skewers, but these skewer make it so difficult for the little darling from stealing your wheels while you park up for a few minutes. Will be buying a few more of these bad boys for the family.

A mixed bag

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: secure
Cons: Poor quality, very fiddly to install correctly
In terms of security, these guys seem to be pretty solid. Once you install them with the bike upside down, flipping it up correctly drops a little pin inside the QR mech, and means you can't undo it until the pin is slid back again by inverting the bike. So far so good.
However, installing them seemed to be so much harder than it should have been. Normally, I like a fairly tight closure on a QR axle. Obviously you have to be able to open it easily, but I don't want to be able to do it with my pinky finger alone. However, I can't seem to make these work at anything other than extremely light force when closing. The parts that rotate against each other (the lever and grooved disc) are made of overly soft metal, which gouges and burrs at the slightest force put through it, so when they slide over each other, the surfaces become roughed up, and you can't lock the axle. This is the first time I've seemQR axles do this. None of the others I've used have ever suffered from this. I think perhaps the alignment has to be on-the-nose, or maybe they've just been made to poor tolerances.
Anyways, I rectified my mistake by removing the burr/roughness with a mini file, and installing them super gently. When I say super, I mean it. I can now undo it with my toes, and anything tougher causes issues. I will see how they roll on the trails, but I'm not convinced, which is unfortunate as from a security POV they seem to be pretty good, but when you only have 1 bike and use it for mtb + road, it needs to perform better.

Good for short term security

PostedSeptember 23, 2010
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Lightweight
These seem to work pretty well and will provide sufficient security to prevent the passing junkie nicking your wheel when you've popped into the shops. It won't stand up to serious jacking but then neither will any other kind of lock. Essentially it's useful as a simple deterrent that will persuade the casual thief to move onto the next bike.
Regarding the other reviewer's comment about it getting stuck - this happened to me but was solved by pushing the handle towards the wheel before pulling it back.

Good in principle, not as good in practice

PostedJune 2, 2010
No, I do not recommend this product.
When they are the right way up they lock and when upside down they unlock however after I fitted them they would not unlock no matter what angle they were at which posed a problem. I used a wrench to take them off and it was easy to remove them which, although it destroyed the skewers, meant that a thief could easily do the same and steal the wheels.
