Fool proof chain cleaning...

PostedFebruary 12, 2014
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality
Must have for anyone who lives in the UK and rides a lot in the wet and wild weather.
I have used this for the last 5 years and by far the best chain cleaner solution and unit. I use this after every wet ride or every fortnight (I cover over 250-350kms a week unless its snow/ice to give you a guide). The all in one unit makes the job easy: squeeze the trigger and you only need a little bit of solution in the chain cleaner and away you go
After you are done, rinse with clean water (the cleaner that is not the chain!) and all done in less than 3 mins.
No more fiddling with pouring solution down a chain cleaner, the attached unit eliminates all that fuss
Highly recommend this!

Excellent degreaser. Fiddly contraption not great

PostedJune 11, 2012
No, I do not recommend this product.
Firstly, the actual degreaser works brilliantly- if you spray it close on the chain you can see the muck being blasted off leaving the chain clean and dry. However I found using the chain cleaning attachment very fiddly. Firstly the straw which connects the spray to the device kept coming off so I had to try and hold it in place. There's no locking system to hold the device onto the chain- you have to hold in a trigger to keep the two parts of the device closed. Also you have to depress the spray button on top of the can, and all the time you need to use a hand to rotate the pedals on the bike. Doing all this while trying to stop the bike falling over needs about four hands! It's also quite a messy process. The system does work, although I ended up cleaning the chain manually afterwards to get it to my standard, so I'm not sure how much I'll use it.

Useful and better value

PostedOctober 6, 2011
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value
I was not overly happy about spending £30 on the Blue chain cleaner. So I decided to plump for the £20 version (I had doubts about the effectiveness of the cheapest ones).
So down to the nitty gritty (literally). The spray provided with this product is amazing - I sprayed the rear cogs with it and the old grease just fell off, I am not sure this is cost effective given a new can costs £9 but it was really entertaining to watch (I know I need to get a life).
You then attach the spray tube into the cleaner, press the button and turn the pedals. and yes my chain is like new! Simple and take but a few seconds - maybe the other product does it slightly better - I have no idea but really this was too simple for words and the results were very good.
But here is some advice. I did the cleaning with my bike turned upside down - I did two smart things which I suggest you also do.
1) I had the bike on a very large piece of cardboard to soak up all the oil/cleaner that sprays onto the floor or drips down from the cleaner - either that or do it somewhere where oil stains are not going to be an issue.
2) I covered my £150 saddle with a couple of tied plastic bags - if I hadn't done that the leather on it would have been ruined
This is a messy job - don't expect it to be any different for you.
My other warning when considering a purchase of a chain cleaner is think of the cost of the cleaner which will need replacing - I have no figures on this but maybe someone else does? I have a feeling these things could be like an ink printer where the initial purchase costs are nothing compared to the cost of the consumables.
But basically it does the job for which it was intended well.

Simple effective cleaner

PostedDecember 22, 2010
Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality, Lightweight, easy to use
Cons: Expensive
Easy to use and outstanding finishn on a road bike, so easy you use it frequently, possibly after each ride. Being an aerosol not environmentally friendly and not the cheapest to us, but very effective.
