Useful Addition

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value
This upgrade kit allows tension shifting of the turbo trainer from the handlebars. This is very useful and recommended or you will be hopping on and off the trainer to adjust.

Poorly designed

Posted29 December 2011
No, I do not recommend this product.
Cons: Expensive, poor design
Got the MAG trainer for Xmas and was really pleased with it. I thought this would be a good additional but was surprised at how poorly designed it was.
I found the cable too long, even with the adjuster at it's maximum, so the first 2-3 clicks make no difference because they don't add any tension to the cable.
It doesn't seem to offer the same spread of resistance as adjusting the knob manually. I could hardly notice any difference between the five different levels when cycling.
And the way the shifter is held in place is just so badly designed, it will almost certainly come undone at some point when using it. It's held in place purely by being in tension. There are no clips to hold it in place.
Given there are no alternatives to it though, if you want to have some sort of adjustment it might be worth a try and you might consider it better than nothing.
I'd probably suggest just planning your training to do different days at different levels of resistance though.

Not really needed

Posted20 August 2011
No, I do not recommend this product.
Pros: Good quality
Cons: little added functionality
I bought this together with the Mag trainer. I quickly found that it was unnecessary given that the bike that I was using already had enough gear settings (7x3) to render another 5 redundant. I took it off again so try the trainer without first - you can always add this later if you need to.

Yes, I recommend this product.
Pros: Good value, Good quality
Fantastic upgrade that allows you to change the risistance without having to get off the bike. It's easy and simple enough to retro fit to your existing unit.

This is a great addition to the Mag trainer. It makes it so easy to adjust the resistance while training without having to get off.
